2022 FIFA World Cup: Who is the captain for Argentina?
Argentina has named their roster for the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Lionel Scaloni has named a 26-man squad that will travel to Qatar later this month to compete for their first World Cup title since 1986. Argentina is in Group C and will begin their campaign against Saudi Arabia on November 22 before facing Mexico and Poland. Lionel Messi is the center of attention.
Following the announcement of the 26-man roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Lionel Messi will captain Argentina.
Lionel Scaloni has named Messi to his fifth and most likely final World Cup squad.
The 35-year-old has come closest to winning the tournament once before, in 2014, when he played a major role in Argentina’s march to the final in Brazil, where they were defeated by Germany.
Argentina veteran Angel Di Maria will join Messi in Qatar. The Juventus player scored the game-winning goal in the Copa America final in 2021.
Scaloni’s team includes five Premier League players, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez serving as Argentina’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Scaloni’s backline also includes Lisandro Martinez and Christian Romero from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively.
