Campaigners for free expression have called the arrests of protestors following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II “very worrisome.”
While a man was detained and then arrested in Oxford, police in Scotland have charged two other individuals.
The arrests took place at ceremonies honoring the Queen’s passing and announcing King Charles III as the country’s new king.
Following the Duke of York’s heckling during the Queen’s funeral procession in Edinburgh on Monday, a 22-year-old man has now been charged with a breach of the peace.
Social media videos showed the man being hauled to the ground by two onlookers after yelling at Prince Andrew as he walked behind the hearse.
It comes after a 22-year-old woman was charged with a breach of the peace following an announcement of the King’s accession outside St. Giles’ Cathedral the day prior.
Both have been set free and will subsequently make appearances at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Symon Hill, 45, was detained on suspicion of a public order offense on the same day after yelling “Who elected him?” during an Oxford accession proclamation.
