Mike Dean is a former English professional football referee who officiated primarily in the Premier League. He is based in Heswall, Wirral, and is a member of the Cheshire County Football Association. He was born on June 2, 1968, in Wirral, England.

Mike has been a supporter of Tranmere Rovers since childhood. Tranmere Rovers Football Club is a professional association football club based in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England.

Mike played football as a goalkeeper in his Primary School. He pulled out of his school when he was 18 years old after expressing weight gain. Soon after, he came into refereeing.

Mike began refereeing in the year 1985. He continued to officiate in the Northern Premier League as a referee.  He became a Football League assistant referee in 1995 and was promoted to the full referees’ list in 1997.

He was appointed as the Select Group referee in 2000, and he has since officiated a number of notable matches, including the FA Community Shield and the finals of the FA Cup, Football League Cup and FA Trophy.

His highest refereeing honor was on 17 May 2008. He took charge of that year’s FA Cup final between Portsmouth and Cardiff City, with Trevor Massey and Martin Yerby as his assistants and Chris Foy as the fourth official.

Mike was the referee of the 2011 League Cup final between Arsenal and Birmingham City, which Birmingham won the match 2–1, with an 89th-minute winning goal by Obafemi Martins on January 31, 2011.
