Raheem Sterling is aiming for Champions League success with Chelsea and admits that losing his starting position at Manchester City last season came as a “huge surprise.”
Since Pep Guardiola has not been able to lead his team to victory in the competition thus far, Chelsea earned the title of European Champions for the second time in the club’s history in 2020–21 under the leadership of current manager Thomas Tuchel, a prize Sterling has never won.
Sterling was on the losing side of the final, which Chelsea defeated City in nine years after City won it for the first time in 2011–12 a feeling he hasn’t experienced since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Liverpool in 2015.
The 27-year-old was a vital member of City’s illustrious reign over English football, contributing to their victories in the FA Cup, five League Cups, and four Premier League championships.
The England international, who spent the majority of last season on the bench, made the decision to sign a £47.5 million contract to join Chelsea this summer.
