Issey Miyake, a Japanese fashion designer famous for his never-wrinkling pleated garments, has reportedly passed away at the age of 84.
According to the Kyodo news agency, Miyake, whose name became synonymous with Japan’s economic and fashion dominance in the 1980s, passed away on August 5.
A wave of young Japanese designers made their mark in Paris starting in the mid-1970s, including Miyake, who invented high-tech, comfortable clothes over the course of a career spanning more than 50 years.
