Kevin Spacey appeared in court for the first time as part of the legal proceedings stemming from four sexual assault charges filed against him in the United Kingdom last month. In May, the Crown Prosecution Service in the United Kingdom announced four sexual assault accusations against Kevin Spacey, coming from three distinct men.
The 62-year-old actor appeared in Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Thursday morning. According to The New York Times, he came there to confirm his name, date of birth, and London residence, as well as to be informed of the allegations he is facing.
According to the Times, prosecutor Natalie Dawson claimed that the House of Cards star should not be allowed to leave the country because there are “strong reasons” to assume he will not return to face trial. However, Spacey’s lawyer fought against it, pointing out that the actor needs to travel for work and primarily lives in the United States with his dog.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Spacey was given “unconditional bail” by Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikran, who argued there was no “real risk” that he would not cooperate.
