Two Brazilian suspects in the disappearance of British journalist Dom Phillips and FUNAI (National Indigenous Foundation) expert Bruno Araújo Pereira have confessed to killing and dismembering the men, according to multiple news reports.

Broadcasters CNN Brasil and Band News were the first to report the news on Wednesday. Police have not commented on the reported confession but are scheduled to hold a press conference later in the day.

Dom Phillips (Merseyside) is a journalist from the United Kingdom. He wrote for the Washington Post, New York Times, and Financial Times.

He lived in Brazil from 2007 to 2022, when he vanished in Vale do Javari with indigenous activist Bruno Pereira. Philips coined the term progressive house in the 1990s to describe the UK musical style of the time.

During the search, police said they collected “biological materials,” but have not confirmed whether they are the remains of British journalist Dom Phillips, a Brazil-based contributor to the Guardian and onetime contract writer for The Washington Post, or Bruno Pereira, a longtime official at Brazil’s Indigenous rights organization.
