An 8-year-old boy was fatally shot by his 5-year-old brother on Thursday the July, 15, 2022 at an Arkansas home. The local sheriff called the incident a “tragic accident.” According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the residence following a 911 call of a reported shooting involving a child. Inside the home, deputies found a lifeless 8-year-old boy in a pool of blood. It was revealed by investigators that boy died at the scene.
Investigators have not released any details about what caused the shooting but believe it was an accident. Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. said the shooting was “avoidable” and said the gun was not properly kept by the owner. “I can’t emphasize strongly enough that guns need to be well secured and kept out of the hands and away from children at all times,” Woods said in a news release. “Gun owners that do not properly secure their firearms are just one split second away from one of these tragedies happening in their homes,” He added. In June, an 8-year-old boy shot and killed a toddler and injured another at a Florida motel.
