The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has marked a significant milestone with the launch of its 75th-anniversary celebrations, which kicked off with the unveiling of a special logo. The ceremony took place at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on April 17, 2024.
Under the theme, ‘75 years of Excellence in journalism: Honouring the past, embracing the present, shaping the future’, the GJA President, Mr Albert Dwumfuor, emphasized the importance of celebrating the Association’s Diamond Jubilee.
Reflecting on the journey of the GJA over the past 75 years, Mr Dwumfuor highlighted the achievements and contributions of past leaders and pioneers in the journalism profession. He paid tribute to individuals who played a key role in establishing the GJA, as well as those who have continued to uphold its values and standards.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, three public lectures and a symposium are planned, with a focus on topics such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on journalism practices in the future. The GJA President expressed the Association’s commitment to honoring the legacy of its founders and building on their successes.
The keynote address at the launch was delivered by Dr Sam Jonah, who urged GJA members to uphold values of Governance, Justice, and Accountability in their work. The event was attended by distinguished members of the journalism fraternity, retired editors, and student journalists from various universities.
The launch of the GJA’s 75th-anniversary celebrations marks a significant moment for the Association as it looks back on its rich history, celebrates its achievements, and sets the course for a promising future in the field of journalism in Ghana.
