A year has passed since unidentified assailants shot and murdered talented South African musician AKA real name Kiernan Forbes.
After hanging out with some friends, the rapper and his companion Tebello Tibz Motshoane were shot and killed outside a Durban eatery.
Following the apprehension of around seven (7) individuals about the rapper and his friend’s murder, the South African Police have at last made progress.
The seven suspects, all of whom were under 36, were paid hitmen, according to the police, though it is unclear why they did what they did.
“It was clear that AKA was monitored from the airport and Tibz was not the intended target in the murder on Florida Road in Durban,” Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner, said in a press briefing on Tuesday night.
“We know they were paid for this,” Lt Gen Mkwananzi added.
He asserted that every accused man was involved in the plot to kill AKA differently.
The suspected mastermind, two shooters who are reported to have fired numerous rounds at the victims, three spotters who are accused of following AKA from the Durban airport, and someone who is said to have located the weaponry used in the ambush are among the suspects in detention.
Some of the suspects are also linked to unrelated murder cases, which are unrelated to these crimes.
Six of the individuals were said to be in police custody on Tuesday night. The BBC was informed by police that a seventh suspect was apprehended early on Wednesday.
