Trotro is a very popular public bus transportation system known to the Ghanaian society. It has a driver and a conductor who work hand-in-hand to operate the bus and they have devious ways they extract additional monies from passengers.

You might think you can outsmart them but piece of advice, don’t underestimate their level of smartness. When it comes to keeping your money, they are smarter – especially the conductors.

Here are some devious ways they extract extra monies from their passengers.

1. Playing the delay tactics
When you give the conductor or popularly known as ‘mate’ a higher amount like five cedis and above, they try to play delay tactics on the passenger then they forget it and they make away with the change.

2. Adding additional seats to the tree-seat
They remake the three-seat bus by adding another seat to make it four so the bus will take extra passengers which would bring extra profit. Though this make the passengers really uncomfortable and they complain, they just over look it. I have been in one before and I can still feel pain in my ankle like it was yesterday.

3. Loading passengers in bits
Anyone that plies the Accra to Kasoa road would testify to the fact that they pay three to four fares before they get to their destination. They would call out Kaneshie as their destination, you pay, you get there and when you are about to alight they call out Odorkor. You have to get back in and pay another fare and its so frustrating.

4. Overload
Even when the bus is full the conductors pick someone to take their seat and they perch by the person.

5. Charging of goods
Passengers with goods are not allowed to place them in the car , even if there is space on the floor and you can put it there. They complaint of no space so either the passenger buys a seat for the goods or it is kept in the boot which you will pay and sometimes they charge fares you cant imagine.
