According to manager Eddie Howe, Newcastle has promised to invest the £40 million asking price for Allan Saint-Maximin back into the team. This summer, the Frenchman has drawn interest from Chelsea and Tottenham, and a transfer is not completely ruled out.
Even though there were some suggestions that Saint-Maximin might not fit Howe’s preferred coaching style after the former Bournemouth head coach was hired last November, Saint-Maximin continued to be a vital member of Newcastle’s team.
Some of Europe’s top clubs took notice of the 25-year-old’s performance. Interestingly, Newcastle has not spent as much money this summer as many had anticipated, and Howe may be disappointed that no forward has been signed so far.
Hugo Ekitike, a striker for Reims, declined a transfer to Tyneside in favor of a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain.
But if Saint-Maximin leaves, Howe has been assured that £40m will become available. If Chelsea or Tottenham approach Newcastle about a deal, that is the price Newcastle will demand.
