Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Greater Accra region have been tasked by Regional Minister Henry Quartey to strictly enforce adherence to the 2024 Performance Contract.

The Local Government Service implemented a performance management system, including the Performance Contract, to boost productivity and improve performance in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

Additionally, it gives the metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs) and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) a way to assess their own performance and establish new goals that correspond to the government’s priorities for completing core service deliverables.

Yesterday, 28 MMDCEs and their Coordinating Directors signed the Performance Contract with the RCC at a signing ceremony held in Accra.

Additionally, the regional minister signed on behalf of four assemblies whose chief executive appointments had been revoked by President Akufo-Addo over the weekend.

“The President has nominated certain MMDCEs to take their place and revoked the appointment of some of them.” To make sure the nominees are verified, we’ll be checking in with them,” he said.

In order to improve the reputation of their respective assemblies, Mr. Quartey urged the MMDCEs to demonstrate commitment and dedication towards achieving the Performance Contract’s key indicators.

Having statutory meetings, filing reports, and increasing revenue were among the key indicators.

“The majority of the indicators are well-known to be routine actions, like filing reports on time, attending statutory meetings, and increasing revenue, among other things.”

Accordingly, he declared, “it will not be acceptable for any assembly to receive a citation for non-performance or non-compliance.” A significant step toward accomplishing the region’s development objectives, according to the regional minister, was the signing of the Performance Contract.

According to him, it acted as a road map, giving their efforts a clear direction and defining goals, targets, and tactics to enhance people’s lives and guarantee sustainable development.

“This Performance Contract is more than just a written agreement; it is a serious commitment to the people that we will make every effort to meet their needs and fulfill their dreams,” he declared.

He informed the MMDCEs that the evaluation of the 2023 contract would shortly begin and asked them to prepare for the exercise.
