An impressive 2456 pharmacies have been onboarded on the National E-Pharmacy Platform, marking a major milestone for Ghana and the digital platform.
The e-pharmacy platform, also known as e-pharmacy, is a nationwide platform of registered pharmacies that allows the Ghanaian public to easily upload and purchase prescribed medicines online and have them delivered to their location after registering on the platform with their Ghana card.
This initiative is in line with the government’s agenda to digitize public services and was made possible through a collaboration between the Office of the Vice President, the Pharmacy Council, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. In 2019, Vice President Bawumia challenged the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana to digitize pharmacy services by introducing a national-scale e-pharmacy platform, the first of its kind in Africa.
The platform officially went live in January this year, following its launch in July 2023 by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. After a six-month pilot phase, the e-pharmacy platform has seen over 2000 pharmacies onboarded, expanding the reach of pharmacies on the digital platform.
Subscribers can register on the platform with a Ghana card and upload any prescription via their mobile phones or USSD code. The platform allows users to find nearby pharmacies, check medicine availability, compare prices, order and pay for medicines, and have them delivered to their location. The authenticity of drugs is assured as the platform is integrated with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) platform.
