The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) to uphold impartiality in the face of potential pressure from President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking at the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, 2024, Asiedu Nketia emphasized the importance of the security forces maintaining their independence and neutrality as the country approaches the 2024 general elections.

He asserted that the security officials must prioritize the interests of Ghanaians over the demands of any current administration. He warned them that President Akufo-Addo would not come to their defense when they are held accountable for their actions.

Asiedu Nketia urged the IGP and the CDS to resist any undue pressure and to act in the best interest of the country. He emphasized the need for them to uphold their oath to protect Ghana, rather than following wrongful instructions under the guise of orders from above.

He called for “positive defiance” and urged the security forces to prioritize the safety and security of the nation above all else.

The NDC campaign launch in Tamale was a strong display of unity and determination as the party gears up for the upcoming elections. Asiedu Nketia’s message to the security officials resonated with the party’s commitment to upholding democratic values and securing a fair electoral process for all Ghanaians.
