Ghana became the very first country to win gold medals in men’s and women’s football in the same African Games.

This victory demonstrates Ghanaian football’s unwavering enthusiasm and quality, despite recent reservations voiced following the Black Stars’ dismal performance at the Africa Cup of Nations 2023.

The Black Princesses paved the way by defeating Nigeria in an exciting final at Cape Coast Stadium, 2-1, on Thursday.

Despite falling behind early on, the Black Princesses showed great perseverance, with striker Mukarama Abdulai securing the victory with a sensational score in extra time.

Their victory paved the way for the Black Satellites, who won gold on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In a dominant contest, the Black Satellites defeated Uganda 1-0, with striker Jerry Afriyie scoring the winning goal. Football helped significantly to these victories.

With these victories, football added two gold medals to Ghana’s total of 19.

Despite criticism of Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, these victories demonstrate the solidity of the sport’s foundations under his leadership.

Okraku’s leadership has now delivered two gold medals at the same African Games, refuting claims of weakness in Ghanaian football. With ongoing backing, Ghana’s football prowess is ready to rise even higher.
