Switzerland has already participated in the World Cup finals in Qatar five times in a row after overcoming some significant challenges on their way to the Middle Eastern spectacle.

The most successful manager in Switzerland’s history, Bosnian Vladimir Petkovic, departed his position after seven years to take over at the French club while Bordeaux’s qualifying campaign was only two games old.

Due to their playoff loss to North Macedonia, Roberto Mancini’s team, which finished two points behind Switzerland, was denied a trip to Qatar.

2022 FIFA World Cup: Who is the coach for Switzerland?

Since replacing departing manager Vladimir Petkovic in August 2021, Yakin has been in charge of the Switzerland national team. Murat Yakin, a defender by trade, rose to prominence in Switzerland early in his coaching career as a result of his successes with FC Basel, when he won two Swiss Super Leagues in as many seasons. In the 2013–14 UEFA Champions League group stage, Basel overcame Chelsea both at home and away under Yakin’s direction. Jose Mourinho, the manager of Chelsea at the time, expressed admiration for his outstanding defensive play.

Switzerland will field one of the more experienced teams in the FIFA World Cup in 2022. A team with the ideal balance of young and seasoned players has been assembled by Yakin.
