Spain didn’t have to wait long to earn a spot in Qatar 2022 after Alvaro Morata’s 86th-minute goal against Sweden gave them direct qualification from Group B.
La Roja’s opening-game tie against Greece might have been seen as a cautionary tale, and the discomfort increased with a 2-1 loss in Sweden on the road. But their final four victories in a row including close wins over Sweden and Greece were sufficient to guarantee a sixteenth trip to the FIFA World Cup.
2022 FIFA World Cup: Who is the coach for Spain?
A player with versatility Luis Enrique is now the head coach of Spain. In addition to playing for Real Madrid and Barcelona, he had the distinction of scoring more than 100 goals. He also participated in three World Cups for Spain (1994, 1998, and 2002).
He is now ready to lead Spain in a second World Cup as captain.
