2022 FIFA World Cup: Who is the coach for Qatar?

He spent the majority of his career in Qatar, initially with the national young teams and then with the senior team. His team won the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and advanced to the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals.

Sánchez, a young coach with FC Barcelona, came to Qatar in 2006 and joined Aspire Academy. In 2013, he was named coach of Qatar’s under-19 team, which won the AFC U-19 Championship the following year.

Sánchez took over as manager of the senior team on 3 July 2017, following a stint with the under-20s and under-23s. On his debut, he scored a 1-0 victory over Andorra in a friendly at St George’s Park in England on August 16. The team failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and was eliminated from the group stage of the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup.

Qatar was also invited to the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States, where they were defeated 1-0 in the semi-finals by the hosts. At the end of the year, his team advanced to the semi-finals of the inaugural FIFA Arab Cup, finishing third.
