In Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, five youths were taken into custody during a police raid on suspicion of having illegal substances.
On February 13, 2024, at around 5:30 am, a successful security operation resulted in the apprehension of 18 individuals, including the teenagers.
To find illegal drug dealers and criminals, the Kumasi police department’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit launched a raid at the Alabar, Tafo, Kenyasi, Abirem, and Buokrom quarries.
Among the teenagers were Monday Peter, 19, Okeke Samuel, 17, Chinedu Omah, 17, Jerry Adams, 17, and Abdul Rashid Zibo, who is purportedly 19 years old.
The other suspects are Michael Nkansah, 30 years, Frank Acheampong, 30 years old, Nana Osei Tutu, 31 years old, Iyamu Destiny, 28 years, and Osei Kwabena, who is 40 years old.
Also, nabbed are Kelvin Egharebba, 35 years, Emmanuel Agyekum, 30 years, Fiifi Charles, 26 years, Osei Akwasi, 42 years, Akua Pomaa, 44 years and Chucke Mohammed, 20 years.
The remaining suspects, who are also in police custody, included Abdul Mohammed, 20 years, Amar Mohammed, 27 years, and Yasir Mohammed, 35 years.
According to a police report, the suspects were found to have four motorbikes, several wraps containing powdery substances, and a large quantity of dried leaves that were all possibly narcotic drugs.
The police report that the paper was able to view stated, “All suspects are in police custody and exhibits retained for evidentiary purpose.”
It further stated, “Those found connected to exhibits will face prosecution after suspects are screened.”
