The Greater Accra Regional branch of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) will meet today, Thursday, at the TUC hall to determine their next course of action, according to Angel Carbonu, President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).
His remarks come after the union released its schedule for a countrywide protest scheduled for February 13, 2024. On Friday, he said on Adom FM’s morning program, Dwaso Nsem, that the government ought to have the guts to remove the tax.
“Today at TUC, we have a meeting with all organized labor. We have all witnessed the developments, but as a union, we must all work together to determine the best course of action. He stated that all we’re requesting from the government is the total removal of the tax.
He said that they are currently debating whether to keep up the demonstration or call it off. Any new developments, according to Mr. Carbonu, will be carefully considered,, and the people of Ghana will be informed of their choice.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) were instructed by the Ministry of Finance on February 7, 2024, to stop implementing the new tax policy until talks with stakeholders, including organized labor, had taken place.
But the labor unions have given notice that they will stage a protest if the government does not formally withdraw the tax in writing.
