One pastor whose name is on the lips of Ghanaians is Bishop Daniel Obinim, the founder of International Godsway Church. He seems to be in the news for all the controversies.
Over the past few years, these are some of the most outrageous things he has done that made headline news in Ghana.
1. Human parts scandal
Bishop Daniel Obinim was alleged to the brain behind a plot to bury dead snakes, bones suspected to be human parts at the church premises of a rival pastor, Prophet Ebenezer Yiadom at Ahenema Kokoben a suburb of Kumasi. He was at the police station to give a statement after which he was granted bell.
2. Beat up a radio presenter with a crowbar
In 2012, the founder of International God’s way Church went the studios of Hot FM in Accra and attacked Mr Paul Intim, the host of ‘’Nya Asem Hwe’’ programme with a crowbar. He accused the presenter of spreading false news about him.
3. Slept with his junior pastor’s wife
Before Pastor Fobih left the Church, he revealed that Bishop Obinim used juju to charm his wife. Obinim responded by casting infirmity spell on the pastor’s son and daughter.
4. Attacking other Pastors
Obinim has thrown jabs toward his fellow Pastors who speaks against his actions. His attacks came in the form of vulgar words on his TV stations and sometimes in Church.
5. Insulted ex-president J.J Rawlings and Afia Schwarzenegger on live TV
Bishop Obinim is on his list of the TV and radio presenter Afia Schwarzenegger due to Obinim insult thrown at her including the former president J.J.Rawlings.
6. Animal transformation comments
Obinim claim he can transform into any animal to visit his Church members in their dreams. This made him trend for weeks. This claim was backed by his wife, Florence Obinim.
7. HIV scandal
Bishop Obinim was in the news in 2010for allegedly telling his entire congregation at Ashaley Botwe in Accra that Florence Nyame is having a feeling health due to the fact that she had contracted HIV-AIDS. The tearful woman, Florence Nyame threaten to take legal actions against him because this had made her a laughing stock in her neighbourhood ever since the day of the announcement before the large congregation.
8. Divorce
News broke in July 2009 that Florence Obinim had packed her bag and headed for London with her two kids without the knowledge of her husband, Daniel Obinim. The Ace gospel singer left for London after a heated quarrel with her husband according to sources. The two were said to have engaged in a serious scandal at their matrimonial home, leading to speculations of a possible divorce. He has however settled his differences with the wife and are now living happily as man and wife.
9. Spiritual battle with fetish priest
Hundreds of eager spectators converged at Kumasi Jubilee Park to witness the match talk about the spiritual showdown between controversial Bishop Obinim and a renowned Kumasi-based fetish priest, Okomfo Yao Appiah. This comes out due to the fetish priest’s claim that Bishop Obinim operates with powers that he bestowed upon him and not the powers of God as he claimed. As part of the challenge, the self-acclaimed Bishop vowed to invoke the power of God to kill the fetish priest. He thus carried along with him a white coffin which was transported to the Jubilee Park to bury the priest. Pastor Obinim eventually left the Jubilee Park after he waited over an hour without the presence of the fetish priest.
10. ‘Yewokrom’ hit song
Bishop Obinim played and dance to the Ghanaian music artist Atom’s “Yewokrom” song during a Church service claiming he made the song a hit. Musician Atom confirmed by saying he visited the pastor prior to the release of the song.
11. Obinim commanded passport to appear in Church
Controversial Christian leader, Bishop Obinim during a Church service at Kumasi branch of his Church shocked the whole world after he supposedly conjured a travelling passport of a Church member to appear in Church. Though the person originally left it at home. This happened as the Church member told the congregation that he had a dream where Obinim gave him money and visa to travel Abroad during a prophesy time in the Church.
12. Obinim beats teenagers in Church
In a video which has gone viral on Facebook, Obinim could be seen beaten the teenagers with what appeared to be a belt. He accused the girl as he lashed her of having sex and getting pregnant instead of focusing on work as an apprentice. Whipping the boy for allegedly impregnating the girl. Obinim questioned how he was going to take care of the girl and the baby since he (the boy) was unemployed. Obinim is currently trending for this action.
