Eleven members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have announced their departure from the party to form a new political entity known as the People’s National Party (PNP).’

This split follows a High Court ruling on April 8 that upheld the suspension of PNC General Secretary Janet Nabla and reinstated David Apasera as the party’s leader.

In a press statement released after the court ruling, the newly formed PNP stated that the decision to break away from the PNC was due to disagreements with the court’s ruling and the reinstatement of individuals they believe were rightfully dismissed for financial malfeasance and misconduct.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, April 17, Sulemana Seidu, the Interim General Secretary of the PNP, emphasized the importance of integrity and credibility in leadership. He expressed that the legacy of the party’s founder, Dr. Hilla Limann, was one of sacrifice without blemish, and they could not allow individuals lacking integrity to govern the party.

As the country approaches the 2024 elections, Seidu stressed that credibility is paramount, and the PNP will uphold the values of honesty, integrity, and transparency. The party aims to serve the best interests of the nation and uphold the legacy of integrity and honesty set forth by Dr. Hilla Limann.

The interim executives of the PNP were also unveiled during the press conference, with Janet Nabla appointed as the party’s National Chairman. Other members of the interim executive team include Francis Oppong as Vice Chairman, Sulemana Seidu as General Secretary, and various other positions filled to ensure the smooth running of the newly formed party.

The PNP is calling for the continued support of Ghanaians as they embark on this new political journey, promising to uphold the values of integrity and honesty in their leadership and decision-making processes.
