In the US, a man used a handgun to kill seven people before taking his own life, according to officials on Tuesday. According to the police, Romeo Nance was identified as the suspect in the shooting, which happened at two separate homes in Joliet, Illinois.
The Joliet Police Department released a press release stating that two additional bodies were located at a house at 2225 West Acres Road, while five persons were found dead from gunshot wounds at a property at 2212 West Acres Road. The authorities claim that January 21, 2024, was the date of both of these shootings.
Nance is thought to live near the locations of the crimes. Nance has a violent past; he was previously arrested for aggravated weapon discharge involving a woman. According to court documents, at the time of this occurrence, he was still awaiting trial and was out on bond in connection with a shooting case from 2023.
Nance is reportedly using a red Toyota Camry with license plate Q730412, according to the police. Additionally, police revealed the results of their investigation into a previous spate of random shootings in the neighborhood that left one person dead and another badly injured.
“At around 8:30 PM on the same evening (local time), the Joliet Police Department was informed that Nance had been located by US Marshals near Natalia, Texas, during which it is believed that Nance took his own life with a handgun following an encounter with Texas law enforcement officials,” stated the authorities.
They stated the Will County Coroner’s Office will decide the victims’ identities and mode of death. The US is seeing a high rate of gun violence and mass shootings.
In the first three weeks of this year, there have been over 875 gun deaths, according to statistics gathered by the Gun Violence Archive, which documents gun violence incidents in the United States.
