Iranian human rights advocate Narges Safie Mohammadi, who was born on April 21, 1972, serves as vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC), which is led by Shirin Ebadi, the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges was raised in Qorveh, Karaj, and Oshnaviyeh before being born in Zanjan. She earned a physics degree from Imam Khomeini International University before earning her engineering certification.
Mohammadi compiled his political writings under the title The Reforms, the Strategy, and the Tactics. He then worked as a journalist for numerous reformist publications. She began working with Shirin Ebadi’s Defenders of Human Rights Center in 2003, where she eventually rose to the position of vice president.
She received a 16-year prison sentence after being found guilty of founding and leading “a human rights movement that campaigns for the abolition of the death penalty” in Tehran in May 2016. She was included in the BBC’s list of 100 Women in 2022.
She published a horrifying report from behind bars in January 2023 that describes the violent interrogation methods used on the 58 female prisoners in Evin Prison and includes a list of the ladies who were tortured. A total of 8350 days have been logged by 57 of these women in isolation. 56 of these women have completed 3300 months in incarceration.
