Born on July 17, 1994, Karly-Marina Loaiza, popularly known as Kali Uchis, is a Colombian-American singer and songwriter. Karly-Marina Loaiza was born in Alexandria, Virginia. Her father moved to the US in the late 1980s from Pereira, Colombia, and finally met Karly’s mother there. Her mother, who gave birth to her children, is from Virginia. Loaiza is the only child they have together.
Her debut mixtape, Drunken Babble, came out in 2012, and her first EP, Para Vida, came out the following year. When it was published in 2018, Uchis’ debut studio album, Isolation, received a lot of positive reviews. 2020 saw the release of Without Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), Uchis’ second studio album and her first in Spanish.
“Telepata,” the album’s lead track, was Uchis’ first solo song to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. She contributed to Kaytranada’s song “10%,” for which she received the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
The song “She’s My Collar” as well as the bonus tracks “Ticker Tape” and “She’s My Collar (Kali Uchis Spanish Special)” from the album’s Super Deluxe Edition are all featured on Gorillaz’s fifth studio album, Humanz, which was released in April 2017.
