Actor Gwyllyn Samuel Newton “Glenn” Ford, a Canadian-American, regularly portrayed average persons in odd circumstances before passing away on August 30, 2006.

Ford, who had a more than 50-year career, attained his greatest fame during Hollywood’s Golden Age as one of the most lucrative performers of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

He performed in many different kinds of films, but among his best roles were in the film noirs Gilda (1946) and The Big Heat (1953), as well as the high school drama Blackboard Jungle (1955).

However, he was nominated for three Golden Globes for Best Actor in a Comedy Film and won the award for Pocketful of Miracles. He also won acting prizes for westerns and comedies (1961). He also played Jonathan Kent, Clark Kent’s adopted father, in Superman (1978).

Ford stopped performing in 1991 at the age of 75 due to heart and circulation issues. He had a string of little strokes that left him weak in the years before he passed away. At the age of 90, he passed away in his Beverly Hills residence on August 30, 2006.
