The government of Ghana, in partnership with the MasterCard Foundation and the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), has launched the Business in Box Project (BizBox) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono region.

This innovative project aims to empower young people between the ages of 15 and 35, with a focus on women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), through various components such as youth skills development, access to markets, access to startups, youth social network, and institutional strengthening policy and regulatory support.

Over the course of four years, the BizBox project will provide support for apprenticeship programs, allowing interested individuals to learn a trade of their choice at no cost to them. The Wenchi Municipal Head of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC), Ms Evelyn Yangnuu, encouraged the youth to take advantage of this opportunity and register for the programme.

During the launch of the project, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alexander Obour Damoah, emphasized that the BizBox project is not just about providing resources, but also about nurturing dreams, creating opportunities, and building a strong economic foundation for the people of the municipality and Ghana as a whole. He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting youth through skills development and improving local economic development.

Mr. Obour Damoah acknowledged the rich talents and ideas present in Wenchi and expressed the importance of harnessing the potential of the young people in the municipality through the BizBox project. He called on all stakeholders to collaborate in making the project a success and strengthening the local business ecosystem.

With initiatives like BizBox, the government aims to simplify the entrepreneurial journey for young people, offering them access to startup kits, market opportunities, skills development, social networks, and regulatory support. The project seeks to create an enabling environment for sustainable growth and development of local businesses, ultimately contributing to the economic prosperity of the community and the nation as a whole.
