An official of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency was set ablaze by a commercial bus driver (EDSTMA).
The event transpired as the driver was being transported by the officer to the EDSTMA office for a suspected traffic violation.
The driver allegedly ran a red light and resisted being taken into custody when traffic officials stopped him.
It was then allegedly instructed to the staff to bring the car to the EDSTMA office.
During this procedure, the driver undressed, grabbed a keg of gasoline from his car, doused the cop with it, and lit him on fire.
The agency confirmed the event and claimed that the injured officer is receiving treatment at an unidentified hospital in a statement that was posted on its official Facebook page.
The statement said, “On Friday, February 9, 2023, at Adesuwa Junction, Sapele Road, Benin City, a driver operating a commercial bus with registration number *FFE145XA* committed a traffic offense.
“This information is being made public by the Management of Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency, (EDSTMA).”
“After being apprehended, the bus driver became enraged and ignited one of the officers with gasoline.” The statement said, “The officer is receiving treatment at this time in an undisclosed hospital.”
While authorities beg for any helpful information that could result in the bus driver’s arrest, he is currently on the run.
