Court filings claim that a couple in Colorado who owned a “eco-friendly” funeral home defrauded hundreds of families by keeping money intended for burial and cremation.

The New York Post claims that instead of keeping their word, they abandoned nearly 200 remains to decay in filthy conditions and used the money for ostentatious expenditures like costly jewelry, bitcoin, and fancy cars.

Return to Nature was operated by Jon and Carie Hallford, who advertised “traditional burials” and biodegradable options for as much as $1,895.

Investigators discovered, however, that the pair had misused the money for their own benefit, buying a $28,336 Infiniti SUV and a $92,566 GMC Yukon XL, as well as indulging in pricey trips, high-end shopping sprees, and cryptocurrency.

Meanwhile, according to court filings, the remains of 189 people who were placed in their care were left unattended in “bug-infested rooms filled with liquid decomposition.

” This flagrant disrespect for the remains of their loved ones and the requests of their clients has angered people and prompted concerns about possible legal ramifications.

The judge’s decision to allow the case against Jon Hallford to go to trial revealed the most recent unsettling information, according to ABC 7.

As the site pointed out, the court decided in favor of Carie similarly last month. On March 21, both are scheduled to appear in court on a number of accusations, including forgery, abuse of a corpse, and money laundering in connection with their purchases.

Return to Nature was scheduled to perform Samantha’s cremation after she passed away suddenly in December 2019. Danica Romero said, “To prey on people in the weakest, most vulnerable time of their lives is absolutely despicable.”

“I have no idea what kind of individual even does it. A soulless person… This wasn’t fair to my sister. She said, “None of the families affected deserve this.
