Heidi Horten was a millionaire and art collector from Austria who died on June 12, 2022.

She was the widow of late German entrepreneur Helmut Horten.

Horten collected a 500-piece art collection that includes works by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, and Yves Klein.

In 2018, 170 paintings from the Heidi Horten Collection were on display at Vienna’s Leopold Museum. Horten revealed intentions to create a private museum in Vienna in 2019, after purchasing a 155-year-old, 22,000-square-foot estate to hold the collection, which she planned to exhibit to the public in 2022.

Forbes projected her net worth to be $3 billion in May 2020. In 2008, Horten sold the 35.56 carat Wittelsbach Diamond, which was once part of the Crown Jewels of Bavaria, for $24 million.

Horten acquired her fortune after her husband, the founder of the German department store chain Horten AG, died.

When in Europe, Horten split her time between Vienna, Austria, Ticino, Switzerland, and Lyford Cay, Bahamas.

Horten loved hunting and art collecting and owned the 315-foot yacht Carinthia VII.

She was 81.
