Billel Benhammouda was a professional footballer from Algeria who played as an attacking midfielder. He died on June 10, 2022.
Benhammouda’s father announced on television that his son was on the verge of receiving a visa to travel overseas and was on the verge of joining a European club without revealing the name of that club.
“The administration expresses its heartfelt condolences to the Benhammouda family on the passing of Al Ittihad footballer Benhammouda,” USM Alger said in a statement.
“We ask to the Almighty God to bless the departed with his enormous mercy, to enter him into the heavenly gardens, and to inspire his family with patience and consolation; Billel, you will live on in our hearts.”
His club teammates, who were already on their way to the league assignment, returned to their individual homes after hearing the news.
Algerian and USM Alger forward Billel Benhammouda was killed in a car accident.
The 24-year-old was on his way home after representing his country in a friendly against the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which the Desert Warriors won 3-0 on Thursday.
