Julee Cruise’s stunning collaborations with David Lynch lifted films like Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks.
She died on June 9, 2022.
Her husband, Edward Grinnant, announced the news on a B-52’s Facebook page, according to The Guardian. From 1992 through 1999, Cruise was an infrequent touring member of the band, filling in for Cindy Wilson.
The next year, she released Three Demos, an EP that includes the original demo versions of her most well-known songs, Falling, Floating, and The World Spins.
Cruise returned to Twin Peaks in 2017 for the series’ long-awaited third season, which aired on Showtime (the original two seasons were on ABC). Her performance includes a rendition of “The World Spins.”
Over the years, Cruise’s distinct vocal stylings drew a slew of collaborators, including DJ Dmitry and the bands Hybrid and Delerium.
She may also be heard in the song Class System by Handsome Boy Modeling School, which was produced by Prince Paul and includes Pharrell Williams.
