California Gov. Gavin Newsom easily won the primary on Tuesday (June 7), advancing to the general election in November, where he will be an overwhelming favorite to win a second term barely a year after surviving a recall attempt.

After the election, Newsom had 59 percent of the total vote cast, while the state Republican Party’s endorsed candidate had only 18 percent.

Gavin Christopher Newsom is an American politician and businessman who has served as California’s 40th governor since January 2019.
