The Cyprus government confirmed late Monday, June 6, 2022, that Labor and Social Insurance Minister Zeta Emilianidou died in a hospital in the Greek capital last month.
Tributes came in for Emilianidou on social media due to her demise.
She was one of Anastasiades’ Cabinet’s few women who earned a reputation as an assiduous worker who kept a low profile while successfully handling problems, including a financial crisis just as she was appointed in 2013 that saw the unemployment rate jump to near-record highs.
The labor minister died as a result of cerebral aneurism.
Emilianidou had emergency brain surgery at the Hygeia Medical Center in Athens a few days after complaining of severe headaches on May 15, 2022.
In recent months, she has been working on legislation to establish a national minimum wage.
She was 68.
