On the third day of deliberations, the jury in the defamation trial against Johnny Depp and Amber Heard made a decision in Depp’s favor.
Depp v. Heard: Who won?
Heard defamed Depp on all three counts, and the jury gave him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive penalties.
Heard received a partial victory in her case, receiving $2 million in compensatory damages but no punitive damages.
Will Amber Heard pay $50 million in damages?
After writing an op-ed for The Washington Post in 2018, Depp sued Heard for $50 million, claiming she was a “public figure symbolizing domestic abuse.”
Depp was countersued for $100 million by Heard.
How much will Amber Heard pay?
Heard declared publicly that she would donate the entirety of her $7 million divorce settlement to charity, with half going to the American Civil Liberties Union and the other half to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Depp has yet to meet those obligations, which were supposed to be paid in annual installments, as Depp’s team demonstrated in court.
Heard stated on the stand that she still plans to complete the gifts.
