Queen Elizabeth II has become the first British monarch to celebrate a 70-year reign.
She is set to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in celebration of her services to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms, and the Commonwealth.
Why is Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022?
On February 6, 1952, Elizabeth II acceded to the throne at the age of 25.
This came after the death of her father, George VI. Her coronation was held more than one year later on June 2, 1963, at Westminster Abbey in London. This was due to the tradition of allowing appropriate time to pass after a monarch dies, before holding such festivals.
On February 6, 2022, exactly 70 years after her coronation, the queen is officially set to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.
To celebrate this milestone, events will take place during the year. These will culminate in a four-day UK bank holiday weekend, from Thursday, June 2, 2022, to Sunday, June 5, 2022.
