A centenarian has fallen and tributes are falling like raindrops and spreading like wildfire across the media landscape. Roger Angell has passed on suddenly at the age of 101 years. To say he was America’s best baseball writer is an understatement.
Roger Angell cause of death: What happened to Roger Angell?
According to reports, he died as a result of a cardiac arrest compounded by heart failure. Angell wrote about baseball for The New Yorker for several decades, focusing on the experience of caring about the game rather than the sport itself.
He was a Hall of Famer who deserved it more than anyone. Angell died of congestive heart failure at his residence in Manhattan on Friday (May 20); confirmed by his loving wife.
Angell profiled generations of baseball’s biggest stars for decades, covering every World Series, as well as spring training, the minor leagues, and, in general, everything baseball. He had a sense of purpose that held all of this work together; he understood why people watched baseball and why they wanted to read about it.
