
Steve Anderson, the (Voice of Fonner Park) for many years, died Monday(May 16) in Grand Island. Anderson who passed on at age 69, had begun his 19th season as the track announcer at Fonner Park earlier in February this year.

He was also the owner of Skate Island, a family-owned business that was demolished in January 2021 after the roof caved in due to heavy snowfall in February 2021. Anderson was first approached for the position of an announcer nearly two decades ago because of his background in television sports coverage and his love of horse racing.
Anderson never missed a day of announcing for 19 race seasons until his ongoing battle with cancer forced him to step down in April. He was tragically killed by cancer, which he had been battling for years.
