Maxwell will play “The Lady of My Life,” a Rod Temperton song that was the final tune of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The performance is a 40th-anniversary homage to that seminal record, which was released on November 30, 1982.
Mary J. Blige will get the Billboard Icon Award and perform live in the evening. Mari Copeny, a 14-year-old environmental justice campaigner, will win the Billboard Music Award Changemaker Award for the third time.
