Comedian Dave Chappelle said his threat to cancel his plans to open a comedy club near his hometown in Ohio wasn’t motivated by his opposition to a nearby development’s proposal for affordable housing.
Did Dave Chappelle oppose affordable housing?
In a statement, Chappelle, who came under fire this week after speaking out against the development in Yellow Springs, said the plan was not the right fit for the village.
What did Dave Chappelle say about affordable housing?
“Dave Chappelle did not put an end to the availability of affordable housing.
A half-baked plan that never actually offered affordable housing was ‘killed’ by concerned residents and a responding Village Council “Carla Sims, a spokesperson for Chappelle, confirmed this.
According to the Dayton Daily News, Chappelle was one of several residents who spoke out against the project at a council meeting on Monday.
Last year, the comedian announced that he was buying a former fire station in Yellow Springs with plans to turn it into a comedy club, but he said he would back out if the project was approved.
“I’m not playing games. I’m going to take everything off the table,” according to Chappelle.
