Al Marsh, a legendary coach in the old Central New York Cities league, has passed away.
He was living in Florida at the time, according to friends, but there are few other details available.
From 1979 to 1996, he led the Cougars to 230 victories, five league titles, and two Section III titles.
In 2007, he was inducted into the school’s hall of fame.
Robert Chestnut used his basketball skills at Corcoran to earn a full basketball scholarship to Le Moyne College, where he began playing in the fall of 1981.
Chestnut’s coach with the Cougars, Al Marsh, thought he deserved a little more.
Marsh negotiated with the school to cover the cost of Chestnut’s books as well, unbeknownst to the player.
Chestnut claims he was the only player at Le Moyne who received the bonus.
On Sunday, a few of Marsh’s former teammates and coaches reflected on his legacy by writing tributes to him and how working with him influenced their lives.
