Ilan Gilon was a politician in Israel who died on May 1, 2022.
He began his career in Israeli politics in the now-defunct left-wing Mapam party (which ultimately became one of the components of Meretz), was the first coordinator of Meretz Youth, and eventually served as deputy mayor of Ashdod.
Between 1999 and 2021, he was a member of the Knesset for the Meretz and Democratic Union coalition.
Gilon, who made social justice one of his life’s priorities, served in the Knesset from 1999 to 2003, and again from 2009 to 2021.
He died on Sunday at the age of 65.
