Galal Yafai was born in Birmingham, England on December 11, 1992.

He won the 32nd combat against Simplice Fotsala of Cameroon but lost the 16th to Johannes Argilgos.
Galal was chosen for the European Games in Minsk, Belarus, in May 2019. He also competed at the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia, where he fell in the quarter-finals against Bilal Bernama.
He also competed for England in the light-flyweight class, winning a silver medal at the 2017 European Championships and a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
At the 2019 European Games, he leads Great Britain in the flyweight class, and he also competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
