Katie Taylor, Ireland’s darling, and Amanda Serrano, Puerto Rico’s seven-weight champion, will make history as the first female boxers to headline at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday.
Since London 2012 gold medalist Taylor turned professional in 2016, Saturday’s match-up has been years in the making.
It was supposed to take place in Manchester in May 2020, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Boxing: How many belts does Katie Taylor have?
Taylor, the undisputed lightweight champion, will defend his WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF titles against Serrano, the unified featherweight champion, who has won nine world titles in seven different weight divisions.
The winner will be widely regarded as the best female boxer on the planet in terms of pound-for-pound competition.
Katie Taylor’s brilliance and speed will be tested against Serrano’s power and intelligence. Serrano is confident that she will be able to stop Katie Taylor.
