After a complaint was made last week alleging “inappropriate behavior” by actor Bill Murray, Searchlight Pictures has put the picture Being Mortal on hold.
This week, the production firm wrote a letter to the cast and crew informing them that they were investigating a complaint, but it did not specify who or what the complaint was about.
Why was Being Mortal suspended?
It’s unknown if Murray will be replaced in the film, which began filming in late March.
The screenplay was written by actor Aziz Ansari and is based on the nonfiction book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End.
This film marked Ansari’s directorial debut, as well as his acting debut, alongside Murray and Seth Rogan.
What was the complaint against Bill Murray?
It’s unclear how long the shoot will be halted.
“Our intention is to continue production,” Searchlight writes in their letter, “and we are working with Aziz [Ansari] and [producer] Youree [Henley] to figure out that timing.”
A representative for Murray and Searchlight have been contacted for comment.
The company Searchlight has stated that it does not comment on pending investigations.
