During his final years, Lafleur dealt with a number of health issues. He had quadruple bypass heart surgery in September 2019 and lung surgery two months later. He was diagnosed with lung cancer for the second time in October 2020.

Guy Lafleur died in the early hours of Friday, April 22, 2022, in his residence in Kirkland, Canada most likely due to being as a result of old age.

 

Guy Lafleur was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. In his 17-year NHL career, Lafleur played right wing for the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Quebec Nordiques.

During the 1988-89 season, the newly inducted Hall of Famer signed one last time with the Blueshirts.

In 67 games, he had 45 points and 18 goals, proving to the hockey world that he was still on top of his game.

After that, he spent two seasons with the Canadiens’ archrivals, the Quebec Nordiques.

Despite the fact that his career ended outside of Montreal, Lafleur was a fan favorite among Canadiens fans.
