Lucy Kibaki cause of death: What happened to Mwai Kibaki wife?

Lucy Kibaki, Kenya’s controversial former first lady, died of an unexplained illness on April 26, 2016 at a London hospital.

She became famous for punching a cameraman in 2005, when she invaded the headquarters of a private media firm in protest of how a story about her was reported.

President Uhuru Kenyatta paid tribute to Mrs Kibaki for her contributions to the battle against HIV/AIDS in Kenya.

Mr Kenyatta took over from her husband, Mwai Kibaki, who was as president from 2002 to 2013.

Mrs Kibaki, who was born in 1940, had disappeared from public life during her husband’s final years in power.

She was last seen in August 2010, at a public ceremony celebrating the approval of a new constitution by dancing to a popular gospel hymn, according to Kenya’s Daily Nation newspaper.

Mrs Kibaki was Kenya’s most divisive first lady, clashing with politicians, diplomats, journalists, and police officers she believed had not treated her with enough respect.
