
Bridget Tan was a Singaporean who died on Monday, April 18, 2022.
She was the founder of the migrant workers’ organization Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME).
Ms. Tan created HOME in 2004, having previously led the Archdiocesan Commission for Migrants and Itinerant People.
She joined the campaign at the invitation of a Catholic priest, Father Andy Altamirano; he approached Tan about the proposal in 1997 and died soon after the committee was established.
Tan took up the role of chair of the project as a volunteer.
Tan stated in a 2011 interview that she felt the call of God when Father Altamirano urged her to join the committee.
Tan worked with ACMI to provide food, housing, and training programs.
Tan eventually quit the ACMI as the Church refused to fund its initiatives.
Ms. Tan spent two years in Batam, recovering and working with non-profit organizations after having a stroke in February 2014.
She was 73 years old.
