Tony Brown, a former NSW and Australia five-eighth, has died at the age of 86.

Brown was a star at Newtown in the 1950s and 1960s, captaining the club for six years. He played nine matches for NSW and ten for the Kangaroos.

But it is at Penrith that he is best recognized, having been named the club’s first captain when they were promoted to first grade in 1967.

After that, the No.6 was involved in the club’s first ever try before being injured in his third first-grade team.

He later became the club’s reserve grade captain-coach, and the Panthers confirmed on Sunday that he died on Friday following a battle with sickness.
